Playing Music

Music plays a vital role in our training environment, but we aim for simplicity and harmony.

Here's how we handle it:

  • Music should be loud, fast, and non-offensive.

  • If anyone has an issue with the music, simply skip to the next song—no need for discussions.

You have options for your tunes:

  • Connect your phone via Bluetooth to our music system.

  • If you prefer not to use your device, utilize the Gym Phone with Apple Music. If you do this remember when you take pictures or video with the gym phone it will stop the music.

Guidelines for music use:

  • Keep the volume low before the workout begins, especially when addressing the group.

  • You can raise the volume during warm-up but maintain a level where the group can still hear instructions.

  • Crank it up during the workout but lower it during prescribed rest periods to help everyone relax. When the WOD resumes, turn it back up.

  • If the class runs over by more than a minute or two, lower the volume at the scheduled end time, announce the time to the class, and then adjust the volume back up. We never want to make our members late, so always keep them informed when the hour is over.

  • Lower the volume just in time so the class can hear the timer’s final beep and of course you should loudly announce Time!

  • The amp’s volume is set so that at the lowest setting of your phone or the iPad you can just hear the music, so there is never any need for you to adjust the volume at the amp.

  • The volume level should be at the lowest setting at the beginning of the hour and at the completion of the WOD.

  • Generally it is not a good idea to let a member control the music on their device. If they are the only one in the class then it’s fine but otherwise it is best if you control it. There are many good reasons for this including musical preferences, ability to appropriately start/stop and set the volume while working out.
