Licensed clinical social worker and counselor by day; CrossFit Level 1 Trainer by night. Raised a nomadic but native (north) Floridian. As a kid, I started karate and taekwondo. Continued karate off and on into high school when I started cross country running and weightlifting. Grew up on a mini farm as a teenager, growing up in the country with horses, cows, hogs, chickens, geese, and rabbits was a defining experience for me. I've gone through periods in life when I did not exercise or do sports for years at a time punctuated by hitting the gym hard and frequently without much guidance except to "get in better shape"; usually in those bouts of activity I was trying to lose fat or make the "vanity muscles" bigger and more pronounced. I started CrossFit in November 2017 after (literally) considering it for 6 months. Can't believe it took me that long to take a step that has transformed my life in ways I cannot express! I was afraid I think; afraid of being judged and afraid of the intensity that I thought I could not keep up with. Two years prior to starting CrossFit, my weight had peaked at nearly 60 pounds more than I weigh now. Simply put, I was unhealthy. Working out at CrossFit Tallahassee has made me realize that training with a coach and group of supportive athletes helps me stay consistent and positive. I'm better able to track my progress on specific workouts. It also helps me focus on developing power, speed, and stamina vs being thin and having bulky vanity muscles. I went into social work and mental health care to help people. Having done that work for 7 years I realize, now more than ever, how instrumental physical activity, proper nutrition, sleep hygiene, self improvement, and positive, supportive social engagement are for wellness. I love working out with my CrossFit family. I love seeing new people come in and transform their lives and push themselves in ways they did not believe they could. I love seeing people be well and feel well.
